A Leighton bookseller who has been forced to shut his town centre business due to a massive fall in trade was given an early Christmas present by his landlord who has extended his lease until the end of the month.
Owner of Buzzard Books in Ryland Mews, Colin Ashby, who is known for his outspoken voice in the fight against out-of-town development, will now be able to shut up shop a few weeks later than planned to enjoy the Christmas rush.
Colin said: “Starting my own bookshop was a dream of mine since I was 20. To write a book and get it published was a dream since I was a teenager. I have done both. I haven’t failed as I have done it. It just didn’t work out, that is not failure. I still have some dreams left.”
Colin says he has be forced to close thanks to the ‘credit crunch’, not being able to compete against the supermarkets’ cheap prices and the fact people are now choosing to shop online for books.
