A teenager from Leighton Buzzard attempted to break a Guinness World Record in order to raise money for his chosen charity.

Matt Dyer, 17, of Gemini Close, managed to complete the London Underground Challenge by visiting all 270 London Underground stations – but a few hiccups along the way meant he didn’t achieve the fastest ever time for the feat.

The fundraiser, who works as a junior administrator at Polar Speed Distribution on Chartmoor Road, Leighton Buzzard, said: “The challenge is completed. I finished in a total time of 17 hours 53 minutes and 29 seconds.

“I would have beaten the record but signal failures in the closing stages of the day meant that trains were severely disrupted and unfortunately put me behind time.”

As well as aiming to complete this unusual challenge, Matt wanted to raise money for Cancer Research UK and has even more drive as he was unable to complete the event last year.

He said: “I wanted to do this challenge as I actually attempted it last year.

“Unfortunately I had to pull out in the evening due to an injury sustained earlier on in the attempt, which was unfortunate as we were ahead of a planned schedule and in with a chance of beating the record.”
