Leighton Buzzard’s footballing veterans were given the opportunity to play an 11-a-side football match on the new state-of-the-art third generation (3G) artificial grass pitch for charity.
The ‘Movember’ charity event at the new pitch at Cedars Upper School saw 30 lads raise £120 by playing football on Saturday for the event, which was organised by Charlie Cunningham on behalf of Leighton Super 7s.
Charlie, who will be running a Friday Nights Veterans 7-a-side league at the upper school starting on December 14, said: “On a beautifully sunny Saturday afternoon 30 men (mainly vets, however some younger lads were thrown in to make up the numbers) had an 11-a-side match for ‘Movember’.
“The referee of the game was Stephanie Chandler (a young enthusiastic female coach from Leighton United).
“Steph did not take any nonsense from the ‘older’ gents and did a splendid job in officiating.
“The match itself was a very tight affair with many opportunities at both ends. However ‘Team Orange’ managed to beat ‘Team White’ 5-2.
“After a number of funny “moustaches”-related pictures (some real, some pretend) everyone eagerly awaited the results of the raffle.
“We were very happy with the turnout and the amount raised.
“It was an opportunity to spread the word about the great new facility down Cedars School.”
