Planning officer Mark Saccoccio has been appointed deputy town clerk at Leighton-Linslade Town Council following in the wake of the shock dismissal of Barry Wardle who formerly held the post.

Mark starts the job in February and comes from Central Beds Council where he was part of the planning team. He is a chartered town planner with more than 12 years experience in local government.

Mark will work closely with town clerk Pat Kingsnorth who said: “I welcome the appointment of a new deputy town clerk and feel that Mark will bring a wealth of experience to Leighton-Linslade. He will be particularly beneficial to the town council in helping us meet the challenges ahead such as taking on more services from Central Bedfordshire Council and the current and anticipated housing growth.”

Town council leader David Bowater, added: “I am delighted Mark is joining the team. He comes as a dedicated professional and will bring new skills and outlooks to enable us to serve the townsfolk. I look forward to working with Mark.”

The post has been vacant since Barry Wardle suddenly left the post in September last year.
