Council say no to extra plan

PLANS for councils to implement a Neighbourhood Plan at a considerable cost have been dismissed by Leighton Linslade Town Council as an unnecessary waste of money.

Central Beds Council brought the idea to the town council at the partnership committee’s meeting on Thursday evening at The White House in Hockliffe Street but the individual plans could cost between £17,000 and £200,000 and the town council did not want to saddle Central Beds with a bill because it has made its own Big Plan for the town which Central Beds has approved.

The cost would not just stop at having the Neighbourhood Plan drawn up as then a referendum would be needed to vote on all the aspects incurring yet more costs to the council.

Councillors said there was no need for the “extra layer” although it could be used to potentially to protect Leighton’s green spaces from house building.
