A LINSLADE clergywoman received her MBE from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace last Friday for her services to the community scaling half a century.

The Rev Win Jones, 72, who previously worked as a midwife and district nurse before she was ordained, said she was extremely proud and privileged to receive the honour.

Win’s family accompanied her to the palace for the ceremony in which Prince Charles spoke to Win about her work in Leighton-Linslade.

Win said: “I never imagined I would ever get to meet a member of the royal family, so I felt quite nervous but extremely proud and privileged.

He took time to speak to everyone and showed a genuine interest in their achievements.”

The St Barnabas Church stalwart joined famous names including Colin Firth, Bruce Forsyth and Bryan Ferry on a list of 965 people rewarded for their services to Britain and the Commonwealth.

Rev Jones has volunteered for a wide range of charity projects over the years, in addition to being a Leighton Linslade Homeless Service trustee and a founding member of the LB Health and Healing Group. She has been at St Barnabas Church for 16 years.

The grandmother-of-six has also been overwhelmed by all the good wishes and lovely messages she has received from everyone in the town.
