Carnival committee share out cash

As planning for the 2012 Carnival begins to pick up pace the carnival committee has announced that following the success of this year’s carnival it has made grants to twelve local organisations.

Grants have gone to:

Buzzer Buses

Luton & Dunstable Hospital Radio

St John Ambulance

Leighton Buzzard Army Cadets

Leighton Linslade Homeless Service

Pre school Learning Alliance

Sparx Theatre Company

LB Rugby Club Under 13s

Leighton-Linslade Street Pastors

Leighton Buzzard Hockey Club

Friends of St George’s

TAIAC

Disappointingly, the carnival committee say it has not been able to make grants to all the organisations and causes who were nominated due to an extremely high level of nominations, greater than for many years and the limited funds available. It hopes next year to achieve even more.

The grants take no account of funds raised on the day by local organisations running stands in the park offering all sorts of opportunity for visitors to support them, being it a Tombola or a game of skill or something else to make the day fun for one and all while raising all important funds.

The key thing that matters though is that the Carnival remains the longest running community event for all age groups in the town and continues to thrive and give local voluntary groups the chance to get involved and raise funds for their organisations whilst allowing everyone from the town and surrounding area to partake and have a enjoyable day. The theme for the 2012 Carnival celebrates this heritage encouraging all involved to look back and draw on the past 60 years of Carnival in Leighton-Linslade.

Mark Freeman, chairman of the carnival committee said: “I am delighted that yet again the carnival was a success, thanks to everyone that took part and all those who watched the procession and then came along to the park to support us. It was a fantastic day and now that we are in the depths of winter it gives us a warm feeling to be able to support so many organisations with a donation. The team is now busy planning next year’s event, which will be based on the theme of ‘Leighton-Linslade’s Diamond Years 1952-2012.”

If you or anyone you know would like to get involved in any way contact the website www.llcarnival.co.uk and why not put the date in your diary now, Saturday, July 14 2012.
