LEIGHTON Buzzard Hockey Club’s men were emphatic winners over Staines 3rds, running out 10-1 winners on a memorable day, which also saw the ladies thrash Letchworth 11-0.

The men started very brightly with a well worked goal in the first minute from Dave Fry at Staines, before a good short corner routine brought the second goal and the visitors went on to net two more before the break.

And the one-way traffic continued after the break, with goals coming from Matt Franklin, Tristen Hardy, James Lee, Nick Marshall, Dan Lambert, Tom Lakins (2), Mark Stephenson and Fry (2).

The scoreline reflected the excellent way that the first team played. It was a very good team performance with superb passing that cut the opposition apart. Man of the match was awarded to Stephenson.

The ladies produced a strong defensive display to keep Letchworth out, and almost everything they touched at the other end turned to goals.

On target for them were Hollie Joyce (4), Vicki Scholes (2), Gail Wright, Emma, Kirsty Scrivner and Hayley Easton and the player of the match award was shared between Joyce and Scholes.

There were plenty of goals in other games too, with Leighton’s men’s 2nds beating OMT 6-1 – Ash Barnett the star of the show with five goals. David Wavish scored the other.

The men’s 3rds beat Ramgarhia Slough 3-1 thanks to Sam Crayk and Alex Brindle (2) getting the goals, while the men’s Fledglings hammered Tring 13-1 – Matt Rust and man of the match Henry Silva the star performers.

Meanwhile the only defeat for Leighton came from the ladies’ 3rds who lost 4-0 to Blueharts, but the 4ths were 2-1 winners against Bedford.
