Sunday shops for Christmas?

With dark mornings and shorter evenings already upon us, the countdown until Christmas is in full swing, which means discussions are taking place to arrange Leighton’s festive shopping weekend.

It has been suggested that all retailers be encouraged to open on the Sunday as part of the three-day event that begins on Friday, November 30.

Arrangements for the Christmas Shopping Weekend have been considered by councillors, but it was noted that the cost of keeping the public toilets open late would be a cost to the town council as part of the contract.

> The LBO wants to know what readers think about independent shops opening on the Sunday. Would you support them or perhaps you’re a shopkeeper with an opinion on extra hours? Call reporter Amanda Devlin on 01582 798512 or email amanda.devlin@jpress.co.uk.
