It is safe to say the nation has been crazy about sport since the Olympics and Paralympics came to London, so in keeping with this Leighton-Linslade will have its own sporting themed event.
Organised by Leighton-Linslade Town Council, ‘History of Sport’ will be held on Saturday, October 6 from 10am-6pm and will take place in and around Leighton Middle School.
More than 30 Leighton-Linslade sports clubs will be getting involved to make the day a huge success by offering taster sessions and providing an historical background to sport.
There will be a mini games event that will include fun activities such as an egg and spoon race, sack race and wheelbarrow race.
October’s event will also include the Community Games project, which is aimed at bringing communities together to take part in sporting and cultural activities.
This was inspired by and will celebrate the London 2012 Games and the Paralympic Games, which is being promoted by Team Beds&Luton.
Alongside the sporting theme, the event will feature dance and gymnastic displays as well as circus workshops and entertainment from sporting characters.
The History of Sport event replaces last October’s Cultural Event, which showcased local groups with a jam-packed programme of music, drama, art and dancing.
It also included a fun and light-hearted event held at Leighton’s Theatre called Leighton-Linslade Has Got Talent.
The council say this year has the opportunity to be even better. The games will be officially opened by the mayor, Councillor Alan Brandham.
